The Issue
Netflix quietly axed their highest-rated animated series featuring a Black family—100% on Rotten Tomatoes wasn't enough.
For my family, back when the show first released, My Dad the Bounty Hunter became our favorite way to spend time together. Here was a show with a Black family at the center, going on wild space adventures while dealing with real family dynamics. The innovative blend of 2D and 3D animation was spot-on, creating a visual style unlike anything else on Netflix. The 100% Rotten Tomatoes rating shows we weren't the only ones who connected with it (even the critics knew that this show was good!).
The show was a genuine hit: 112.9 million viewing hours worldwide, Top 10 in over 60 countries, and ranked as the 25th biggest kids show on Netflix in 2023. Yet Netflix canceled it in June 2024, leaving the story unfinished.
Now, approaching Father's Day 2025—almost a year later—the cancellation still stings. Season 2 ended on a major cliffhanger. We never got to see Beta rebuilt, Blobby's royal backstory, or learn more about Terry's past as Sabo Brok. And when the Warp Gate reactivated with another ship coming through in the end credits, I knew the story wasn't over—it was just beginning.
This petition is about more than bringing back a show. It's about valuing diverse storytelling and respecting the audiences who support it. It's about finishing the stories we start, especially when they mean so much to so many families.
Update: We've hit 210+ signatures and counting! I'm working on getting the word out online. Every signature helps show Netflix that this show mattered.
