The Issue

We need a safer Cleveland. We urge Cleveland City Council to renew and extend the City’s partnership with License Plate Reader (LPR) technology provider Flock Safety as part of a responsible, community-focused public safety strategy that is transparent and protects our civil liberties.

LPR technology helps law enforcement:

  • Recover stolen vehicles
  • Locate wanted suspects
  • Retrieval of missing people (AMBER Alerts and Silver Alerts)
  • Identify unknown suspects
  • Improve investigations and evidence collection
  • Narrow investigations with greater precision
  • Reduce unnecessary traffic stops and police interactions
  • Reduce reliance on unreliable eyewitness identification
  • Prevent broad enforcement sweeps by focusing on specific vehicles
  • Reduce dangerous police pursuits
  • Improve public safety response times

Over 20 faith leaders from across Cleveland recently wrote that technology, when guided by transparency, accountability, and compassion, can strengthen public safety while supporting the “Beloved Community” envisioned by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Please sign this petition to support safer neighborhoods, smarter policing, and accountable public safety technology in Cleveland.
