Resolving the Unsolved Kidnapping, Rape and Murder of Carla Walker
The Issue
Gone Cold Podcast is currently airing the unsolved February 1974 kidnapping, rape and murder case of Carla Walker from Fort Worth, Texas. "Gone Cold Podcast explores unsolved murders and missing persons cases throughout the state of Texas. Their primary objective is to reinvigorate the public's interest in these cases, bringing attention to the fact that they haven't simply gone away, but remain an enormous weight on the shoulder of those who cared for the victims."
Carla Walker, age 17, was with her boyfriend Rodney McCoy, a high school football player, when she was pulled out of his car and abducted in front of a bowling alley after a Saturday night Valentine’s Dance. Carla's boyfriend was beaten with a Ruger 22 rifle, suffering blows to the skull, following a single firing of the gun when the clip fell out. Carla was loved by all of her high school classmates as she had a way of making everyone feel included. Fort Worth was a sleepy town in those days so the community felt ineffable shock when her body was found in a culvert ditch, strangled and tortured. Many community members suspect that her murder is tied to other serial events occurring around the same time, all involving the rape and killing of young women.
Because Carla’s story is such a compelling case, Gone Cold Podcast made the purposeful decision to make it their debut presentation. GC Podcast is willing to share all their resources and information in an effort to encourage other media to get involved. Hopefully this query—a group effort by the many people who loved Carla and still miss her—will incentivize Dateline to explore this still unsolved mystery. https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/gone-cold-podcast/id1214679007?mt=2
