We call upon the authorities to rename the Whitson Ave Bridge in Swannanoa, NC to 'Swannanoa Memorial Bridge'. It is important to acknowledge the devastation from Hurricane Helene, which claimed multiple lives and displaced countless residents from their homes on September 27 2024. The bridge plays a daily, tangible role in transportation for people in Swannanoa, and renaming it would be a compelling public acknowledgement of the catastrophe. Additionally, we request the lot adjacent to the bridge on US 70 be converted into a memorial area for victims of Hurricane Helene.
