I was raised by an extraordinary man, my father - Howard Hughes. He lived and breathed aviation and was committed to his small-town community. A true pioneer in the Australian aviation industry with a deep love for the east coast town of Ballina, he saw in it a remarkable potential. Over 40 years, he tirelessly designed and manufactured aircraft beside this tiny yet-to-be-named street. Today, I strive to ensure that his contributions are not lost to time but celebrated.

We propose to name the presently unnamed "hangar lane" at Ballina Airport as "Lightwing Lane," honoring my late father's work and legacy. This commitment will not only remind us of his vast contributions to the aviation industry but will also stand as a testament to the inspiring history of Ballina. It is a history my father has significantly shaped, producing numerous aircraft and contributing to the growth and development of our town for four decades.

Renaming the street "Lightwing Lane" is the least we can do to appreciate and acknowledge his relentless efforts and our town’s rich aviation history. It will add a touch of personal history to the ever-growing Ballina community and etch into its infrastructure, the remembrance of a remarkable man that was a vibrant part of Ballina's aviation scene.
