Donald Trump apparently thinks he can rename Lake Ontario to “Lake America.”

So I have a proposal for Ontario:

A bit of history - Trump Lake was officially recorded in Ontario in 1954. The lake is located in the Sudbury District, in Northern Ontario.

To the Ontario Geographic Names Board,

I am writing to request the submission materials and process required to formally propose changing the official name of Trump Lake in the Sudbury District, Ontario, to Lake Canada.

I am supporting this proposal because I believe the existing name has become unnecessarily associated with a contemporary American political figure, while the proposed name, Lake Canada, would provide a distinctly Canadian identity for this Northern Ontario geographic feature.

I understand that the Ontario Geographic Names Board considers local usage, community support, historical significance and other geographic naming principles when reviewing proposed name changes. I also understand that the Board does not simply adopt the results of naming contests or petitions, and that a formal submission with supporting documentation is required.

I am therefore requesting the appropriate submission form and instructions so that I can participate in the formal process of proposing:

Current official name: Trump Lake
Proposed name: Lake Canada
Location: Sudbury District, Ontario

I would also appreciate information regarding what supporting documentation, community consultation, historical research or other information would be helpful in demonstrating support for this proposal.
