Rename the Southeast Corner of 5th and South Streets as "Gus' Corner"

The Issue

For over 45 years, our neighborhood in Queen Village, Philadelphia, has been graced by the presence of Gus and his iconic hot dog stand. Every day, including most Sundays, Gus was there to serve us hot dogs, drinks and soft pretzels with a smile. His dedication to our community made him more than just a vendor; he became a beloved institution on South Street.

When street vendors were banned from the South Street Corridor over three decades ago due to zoning regulations, it was through the power of SS business folks and  neighbors and customers that Gus was allowed to continue his operations. He is indeed a legacy business on South Street.

However, in October last year Gus retired on one day notice leaving an irreplaceable void in our community. The corner that once bustled with life now remains vacant due to current regulations.

We propose renaming this corner as "Gus' Corner" not only as an homage for his 45 years of service but also as a symbol of our neighborhood's resilience and unity. This gesture will ensure that future generations remember the story of Gus - an everyday man who served with extraordinary commitment.

Let's honor this 45-year-old institution by giving it its rightful name - "Gus' Corner". Sign this petition today!
