In October 2019, our lives changed forever when my little brother, Devan Selvey, was tragically taken from us. Devan was only 14 years old, full of life and promise, and his favourite place to play and explore was Roxborough Park in Hamilton, Ontario.

Devan wasn’t just a victim of a horrible crime; he was a cherished member of our family and community. By renaming Roxborough Park to Devan Selvey Memorial Park, we can create a lasting tribute to his memory, transforming a space that was once full of laughter and childhood joy into a beacon of hope and resilience.

This park was not only significant to Devan but also a cherished part of his community. By officially dedicating it to his memory, it becomes not just a park, but a sanctuary of safety and comfort for everyone who visits. This act will ensure that Devan's spirit and love for this park live on, while also serving as a reminder for the community to come together to foster safe spaces for our children.

Renaming the park will serve as a powerful statement against the violence that took Devan’s life and as a symbol of unity and healing for our community. It will also support local initiatives to create safer spaces for youth and encourage dialogue around the importance of protecting our children.

We are calling on fellow community members, local leaders, and the city of Hamilton to support this renaming. This change will not only honor Devan but also stand as a marker of the positive change we wish to see in our community.
