Rename Ronald Reagan Highway to Honor Elizabeth Piper Ensley

Rename Ronald Reagan Highway to Honor Elizabeth Piper Ensley
The Issue
Nearly everything wrong in our country today can be traced back to Ronald Reagan and his presidency. Our progressive state of Colorado should do justice to its conviction by honoring an important figure in history - Elizabeth Piper Ensley. The Ronald Reagan Highway on I-25 should be renamed after her.
Ensley, unlike Reagan, believed in equity, education, and voting rights, and tirelessly fought for these values in Colorado at the turn of the 20th century. As a founding member of the Colorado Non-Partisan Equal Suffrage Association, she played a monumental role in achieving women's suffrage in Colorado in 1893, a full 27 years before the 19th Amendment was ratified at the national level (source: Women's History Chronology - The State Historical Society of Colorado). Yet, her name remains ignored, whereas Reagan, who largely contributed to the income gap, environmental negligence, and policies that hurt the middle class gets a highway in his name (source: 'The Nation' Magazine).
State recognition should be for those who laid the foundation for progress, equality, and justice. Let us make a change, Colorado! Support renaming Ronald Reagan Highway to Elizabeth Piper Ensley Highway. Sign this petition.
