Help Us Honour Ronald C. Marchildon’s Legacy

We are calling on the Mayor and Members of Council for the Town of Penetanguishene to honour one of the community’s most dedicated leaders by renaming the Penetanguishene Memorial Community Centre to the Ronald C. Marchildon Memorial Community Centre.

For 28 years, Ronald C. Marchildon devoted himself to serving this town through his work in parks, recreation, and sport. As Recreation Coordinator, and later Director of Parks and Recreation, Ron played a central role in developing programs and facilities that brought people together and positively shaped generations of residents.

Ron was far more than a municipal employee — he was a lifelong ambassador for Penetanguishene. He had a deep passion for sport, particularly hockey, and spent much of his life playing, coaching, refereeing, and encouraging others to get involved. His contributions were formally recognized through his induction into both the Midland Sports Hall of Fame and the Penetanguishene Sports Hall of Fame.

Those who knew Ron remember him as a larger-than-life presence — a storyteller, a leader, and someone who made people feel welcome and valued. His impact extended far beyond sport, reflecting a genuine love for his community and a commitment to making Penetanguishene a better place for everyone.

Renaming the Community Centre in his honour would be a meaningful and lasting tribute — one that ensures his legacy continues at the very heart of the community he helped build.

This public petition supports a formal written request being submitted to Town Council. Please add your name to show your support and help us honour Ronald C. Marchildon’s lasting contribution to Penetanguishene.
