Last week the original bill to rename BNA Airport after President Trump failed and our petition saw a wave of support. With over 40,000 signatures and dozens of press hits, the petition is taking off among Tennesseans and across the country. With lawmakers willing to discuss a renaming, we want it named after someone that we all support. This is not a movement against anyone’s politics, but rather a campaign to show unity in recognition of a singularly exceptional native Tennessean.
In order for this dream to become reality, we need a bill. Tennessee State Representative John Mark Windle (D) is a Dolly fan. In fact, he once introduced a bill to install a statue of Dolly at the state capitol. Tennessee State Representative Fred Atchley (R) is also a fan, most recently introducing a resolution to honor the memory of Dolly’s late husband, Carl Dean.
We’re trying to get their attention to champion our cause. Will you help us? It only takes 5 minutes!
You can call John Mark Windle’s Nashville office at (615) 741-1260 and Fred Atchley at (615) 741-5981; you can use the following script, or paraphrase in your own words. If you live in Tennessee or are a constituent of theirs, be sure to mention that too!
My name is [YOUR NAME] and I’m calling because I know that Representative [Windle or Atchley] is a fan and supporter of Dolly Parton. I’m one of tens of thousands of petition signers who want to see Nashville International Airport named after a Tennessee legend who unites us all. Dolly has had a positive impact on millions of lives, and we can’t think of someone more deserving of this honor. Will you take action to make this dream a reality and give this extraordinary woman this tribute, to highlight for both Tennesseans and visitors to this great state, an example of the very best in all of us?
Once you’ve called, leave a comment letting us know you did it!
