On a cold and dark evening, January 10, 2023, our world changed forever. My daughter, my friend, and my only child, Ariana Haftsavar, a vibrant 16-year-old filled with dreams and promise, was tragically taken from us. Just a passenger in the back seat, returning home from an SAT class at 9:27 PM, Ariana's bright future was cut short due to a hazardous section of Lee Chapel Road.

This road has been particularly dangerous, claiming numerous lives due to its blind spots and lack of appropriate safety measures. After losing Ariana, our community rallied together, driven by a desperate need for change, and we garnered over 14,000 signatures demanding improvements to this perilous stretch of road. Through our concerted efforts, funding has finally been approved in two parts, and the county has scheduled essential safety upgrades including widening, better lighting, and clearer signage.

While we take solace in the fact that these changes will prevent further tragedies, it feels like little consolation for the loss we endure every day. To honor Ariana's memory and ensure her life and the lessons learned from her untimely death are never forgotten, we wish to rename Lee Chapel Road in her memory.

Renaming the road to Ariana Haftsavar Memorial Road will serve as a constant reminder of the precious life that was lost, and the need for ongoing vigilance in creating safer streets for everyone. This change not only keeps Ariana's spirit alive but also honors all victims who have lost their lives on this precarious road.
