The Issue

On March 17, 2011, a tragic and horrendous event took place that shook the community of Binghamton, NY—the murder of Jeffrey T. Aissa. In the early morning hours, Jeffrey's home was maliciously set on fire during an arson attack, and he was unable to escape the fiery blaze, losing his life in an unimaginably brutal manner. Jeffrey was a beloved member of our community, known for his kindness, generosity, and dedication to bettering the lives of those around him. His untimely death has left a void in the hearts of many, and it is in his memory that we seek to honor him.

Fairview Park, located on the East Side of Binghamton, NY, is a special place of gathering and recreation for residents. To commemorate Jeffrey's life and ensure his memory lives on, we propose renaming Fairview Park to "Jeffrey T. Aissa Park." This name change will serve as a constant reminder of the joyful spirit that Jeffrey embodied and the tragic loss we suffered as a community.

Jeffrey's story is not just one of tragic loss but also of love and resilience in the face of unimaginable adversity. By renaming the park, we are acknowledging the impact he had on those around him and the person he was. It's an opportunity to educate new generations about his story and promote a legacy of community spirit and safety.

To support this initiative, we call upon city officials in Binghamton to advocate for this change officially. Renaming the park will not only honor Jeffrey’s memory but also stand as a testament to the community's commitment to remember and cherish its members.

Please sign this petition to urge the City of Binghamton to rename Fairview Park to Jeffrey T. Aissa Park and thereby help perpetuate Jeffrey's legacy, ensuring his tragic death will not be forgotten but instead transform into a lasting tribute to the power of coming together as a community against violence. Thank you for your support.
