Eglinton Avenue and Ossington Avenue should be renamed Egglington Avenue and Osslington Avenue, respectively.

Toronto is known as the city that gave Islington Avenue, a handsome, well-respected north-south thoroughfare, its adorable and fun-to-say name. Torontonians have long bristled at the stuffy, strait-laced names applied to two of its other first-class avenues: Eglinton and Ossington. In the case of Eglinton, civic spirit has perservered such that it is already customary to use the groovier pronunciation "Egg-ling-ton" -- in the case of Ossington, perhaps we have become too downtrodden to even try.

Let's show City Hall that their jaded squareness does not become us. That we are a city which takes the stewardship of its streets seriously, and refuses to squander a golden opportunity to give two of its most beloved streets the adorable and hilarious names they deserve.

Let Toronto be the city of Islington, Egglington, and Osslington.
