The Issue

We, the Kiss Army and Rock Soldiers, respectfully petition for the renaming of the interstellar object Comet Lemmon or 3I/Atlas as “Frehley’s Comet” in honor of Paul Daniel “Ace” Frehley (1951–2025), the influential musician, songwriter, and original lead guitarist of the iconic rock band KISS.

Ace Frehley was more than a musician; he was a symbol of cosmic creativity. "The Spaceman" of KISS, his persona was directly inspired by themes of outer space, science fiction, and the unknown. Through his music, image, and influence, Frehley inspired generations of fans to look beyond the horizon and into the stars. His solo band, Frehley’s Comet, further solidified his cosmic legacy, blending hard rock with astronomical motifs.

Both Comet Lemmon, a celestial body with striking visual presence, and 3I/Atlas, an interstellar visitor and only the third such object known to humankind, carry with them profound symbolic resonance. Like Frehley himself, these cosmic travelers blaze singular paths through space. As Frehley joins the pantheon of rock legends whose influence will never fade, it is only fitting that a celestial object, eternal and awe-inspiring, carry his name.

Renaming either Comet Lemmon or 3I/Atlas as “Frehley’s Comet” would honor his lifelong association with space imagery, serve as a poetic tribute to his eternal journey through the cosmos, and ensure that his legacy will not only live on Earth but among the stars, where his music and spirit always pointed.
