The Issue

Growing up in Detroit, some of my most cherished memories revolve around the beloved sport of baseball, and more specifically, the Detroit Tigers. Comerica Park is not just a stadium to me; it's a symbol of tradition, pride, and the resilience of Detroit. Walking through those gates, one is reminded of the legends who have left their mark on the city's baseball lore, none more so than Al Kaline.

Al Kaline, affectionately known as "Mr. Tiger," dedicated his entire 22-year Major League Baseball career to the Detroit Tigers. His remarkable achievements, including 18 All-Star selections, 10 Gold Glove Awards, and a batting title, reflect a level of greatness that resonates with fans throughout generations. Beyond his statistics, Kaline was a paragon of sportsmanship and community involvement, emblematic of the spirit of Detroit itself.

Comerica Park deserves a namesake that epitomizes the rich heritage and enduring spirit of Detroit baseball and its fans. Naming the stadium Kaline Stadium would be a fitting tribute to a man who, even after retirement, remained an integral part of the Tigers organization as a broadcaster and mentor.

This renaming would not only honor Al Kaline’s monumental contributions but also unite fans under a shared legacy. It would preserve his memory and inspire new generations to appreciate the history of the game and its impact on our community.

Let's rally together to urge the Detroit Tigers organization and the City of Detroit to consider renaming Comerica Park. By doing so, we can ensure that the enduring legacy of Al Kaline continues to inspire and galvanize not only fans but the broader Detroit community.

Please, join me in signing this petition to commemorate a true Detroit icon and ensure our beloved stadium reflects its rich history and values.
