Columbia Academy has always stood for excellence: on the field, in the classroom, and in character. And Over the years, many athletes and students have represented that well, but few have completely embodied it as Gunner Skelton.

     Gunner’s impact goes far beyond stats or awards. Yes, he’s been dominant on the baseball field, a leader in big moments, and someone who has put Columbia Academy on the map athletically. But what really separates him is who he is daily. A man who leads by example, treats people the right way, and represents this school with humility, discipline, and consistency. This is exactly what the CA mission is all about.

     You don’t just see his influence during games (him being clutch in big moments, best pitcher and shortstop in TN), but you see it in the way teammates carry themselves, the standards he’s helped develop and set, and the respect he’s earned from coaches, students, and the community. Younger athletes look up to him. Teammates trust him. Teachers and coaches know what kind of person they’re dealing with when they hear that name called. He’s really the true definition of the 24/7 school we as a student body claim to be.

     Renaming our great school of Columbia Academy to “Skelton Academy” isn’t about idolizing one athlete. It’s about recognizing a student who truly represents everything this school claims to value: hard work, leadership, integrity, and impact beyond oneself. It’s about honoring someone who didn’t just attend Columbia Academy, but helped shape its culture to what it is today.
