On November 11, 2023, Senior Police Officer Jorge Ignacio “George” Pastore, a 38-year-old SWAT operator and member of the Austin Police Department Honor Guard, was tragically killed in the line of duty. Officer Pastore died heroically while leading a hostage rescue during a domestic violence call in South Austin. He was shot while trying to save the lives of others—embodying the very best of public service, courage, and selflessness. A devoted husband, and role model, his legacy deserves to be honored in a manner that echoes his bravery and commitment.

In light of his ultimate sacrifice, we propose renaming Cesar Chavez Street to Jorge Pastore Street. Officer Pastore's actions exemplified dedication to the community of Austin, and his tragic passing during an act of heroism has left an indelible mark on all those who knew him. We believe that renaming a significant street in our beloved city in his honor would be a fitting tribute to his memory and a constant reminder of the risks taken by our law enforcement officers every day.

Renaming Cesar Chavez Street to Jorge Pastore Street will not just immortalize a local hero, but it will also stand as an inspiration to current and future generations about the values of courage, community service, and sacrifice that Officer Pastore embodied.
