As an opposition activist and critic of the regime, Alexei Navalny fought for human rights and everything that we as an open liberal society stand for: Freedom, democracy and the rule of law. He was unlawfully arrested by the Russian authorities, tortured and interned in a penal colony in the far north for exposing corruption among the Russian elite. The renaming of the section of Behrenstrasse, where the Russian embassy and the associated residential buildings and school are located, as Alexei Navalny Strasse can send out a strong signal. This will remind the representatives of the Russian regime of their crimes every day. I support this renaming and appeal to the governing mayor of Berlin, Kai Wegner, to implement this as soon as possible.
