The Issue

A few days ago, my heart sank as I witnessed a traumatic incident just outside Parkview Elementary School. A child was struck by a car while crossing the road to get to school. This tragic accident could have been prevented if the bike lane cones wasn't blocking places for parents and teachers to park

Parkview Elementary, situated in a bustling neighborhood, sees an influx of children every morning and afternoon.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, pedestrian accidents are notably higher in areas surrounding schools, particularly when safety measures are not adequately implemented. In fact, school-aged children are more vulnerable to traffic-related injuries during school arrival and dismissal times. The absence of parking has diminished the protective buffer essential for our kids' safety in these crucial hours.

Moreover, removal of these cones that limit parking not only for parents and teachers may, be a solution that can potentially save lives. These cones act as a barrier, slowing down traffic, making it hard for vehicles to pass by one another, and removel can reducing the likelihood of further accidents.

We owe it to our children to ensure their safety as they make their way to school, a place meant for learning and growth, not fear and danger.

We are calling upon the city's Traffic Safety Department and the school administration to collaborate and restore the safety and peace to this community by removing these cones along the street near Parkview Elementary. It's a small step that can make a monumental difference in preserving our children's safety.

Join me in advocating for our community's safety by signing this petition. Let's ensure every child can walk to school without fear and restore peace of mind to every parent in our community. Sign now to bring back the safety cones!
