The Issue

As a job seeker, LinkedIn has always been an essential tool in my pursuit of career growth and opportunities. However, I've recently encountered a significant issue that not only affects me but countless others who are in similar situations. The arrival of Twine on the LinkedIn job posting board has raised multiple concerns, primarily because Twine requires job seekers to pay a fee to apply for jobs. This is a burden for many individuals who are already facing financial difficulties.

LinkedIn has long been a platform where aspiring professionals could connect with potential employers without the barrier of financial constraints. However, by allowing Twine to post jobs on its platform, LinkedIn inadvertently creates a paywall that can exclude talented professionals who may not have the expendable income to pay these fees.

According to a survey by CareerBuilder, approximately 78% of full-time workers in the U.S. live paycheck to paycheck, and about 56% save $100 or less each month. For many, the idea of paying to apply for a job is simply out of the question and adds undue stress to an already challenging job search process.

Further studies suggest that barriers such as these can disproportionately affect underrepresented communities. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that in 2020, the unemployment rate was higher for minority groups compared to the national average. Adding a financial burden makes it harder for already marginalized individuals to access potential job opportunities, further widening the employment gap.

The presence of paid applications on a professional network like LinkedIn could tarnish its reputation as a user-friendly and inclusive platform. It's essential for LinkedIn to uphold its commitment to providing equitable access to opportunities for everyone.

I urge LinkedIn to reconsider allowing job platforms like Twine to post paid job applications which contradicts this mission. We need to maintain the integrity of the job search process by ensuring it remains accessible to all job seekers, regardless of their financial situation.

Please sign this petition to remove Twine from LinkedIn's job posting board and keep job hunting fair and affordable for everyone.
