Dear Mr Layton,
Petition: ‘Remove traffic light control from Easington Road roundabout’
Thank you for your initial email dated 17th February 2026 titled ‘Easington Road/West View Road/Hart Road Traffic Lights, which goes on to refer to the petition hosted on
www.change.org titled ‘Remove traffic light control from Easington Road roundabout’.

I am aware that Hartlepool Borough Council’s Highway Infrastructure Manager provided an
initial response to your email on the 27th February 2026, acknowledging receipt of the petition. Subsequently, your petition was considered at a meeting of the Council’s Neighbourhood and Regulatory Services Management Team.

Following this meeting I can confirm, as mentioned in the initial email response, that the Council are currently awaiting updated traffic modelling which has been informed by traffic surveys carried out following the implementation of the scheme. Once the modelling and
report has been reviewed, the intention will be to carry out any improvements recommended as soon as feasibly possible to help the junction to operate to an optimum level.

The chair of Neighbourhood Services Committee has been made aware of the petition, alongside relevant Ward Members.

In the meantime, if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
Yours sincerely

Scott Parkes
