Remove Timothy T Stewart. From the Police Department
The Issue
Petition to Remove Timothy T. Stewart’s Name from the New Britain Police Department
To the Leadership and Citizens of New Britain:
We are officially calling for the immediate removal of former Mayor Timothy T. Stewart’s name from the Community/Conference Room at the New Britain Police Department.
A room located within our city's police department—a building that stands for justice, safety, and community respect—should not bear the name of an individual with a documented, 12-year history of disrespecting the citizens of this city.
Over the years, Mr. Stewart has repeatedly engaged in unacceptable behavior that completely disqualifies him from holding this civic honor. His public track record includes:
Disparaging the residents of the North Oak neighborhood by referring to them as "prisoners of the asylum."
Directing highly offensive, misogynistic language at Democratic women dressed in white.
Verbally harassing female campaigners on Steele Street, driving by and explicitly cursing at them, only to return a second time to yell further profanities from his vehicle.
Demonstrating a consistent pattern of racist and derogatory rhetoric directed toward women and marginalized groups in our community.
For too long, accountability has been delayed. He has been shielded from the consequences of his actions by his daughter’s tenure in the mayor's office. With her no longer there to protect him, this reckoning is long overdue.
Our public spaces should reflect the values, dignity, and diversity of the people of New Britain. We demand that the city take immediate action to remove Timothy T. Stewart’s name from the police department and restore respect to our public institutions.
It is time for him to go.
