Remove the video, not the channel

The Issue

I'm a mum and a children's author. Four years ago I made a calm bedtime channel for my son, because nothing gentle existed to help him settle. I narrate every story myself. Today about 31,000 plays a day come from families using it to get little ones to sleep.

On 6 October, YouTube removed my whole channel from its Partner Programme for "low quality kids content". Two appeals were refused. And here is the part most people can't believe when they hear it: YouTube will not tell me which videos broke the rules. Not one. The evidence is, in their own words, "for their eyes only".

Their own rules say a whole channel is only suspended for a "strong focus" of low quality content. Four years of calm bedtime stories, and nobody will explain how that clears the bar.

A channel like mine is a business. Mortgages, bills and wages depend on it. You can go to bed running that business and wake up to it gone, with no reason named and no way to put it right. Doing that to people, in secret, is inhumane.

Other major platforms warn creators first, strike by strike, and name the problem. YouTube is out of step with all of them.

So I'm asking YouTube for one thing:

Remove the video, not the channel. If a video breaks the rules, tell the creator which video and which rule, and give them the chance to fix it or take it down before any punishment. No channel should lose its income in secret, without knowing exactly why.

I'm not the only one. In the four days after my suspension, at least 126 other creators posted publicly about losing their monetisation or their channels.

If you think nobody should lose their livelihood without being told why, please sign.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT

I've started a daily series on Instagram documenting this fight, every update, everything I do, and how YouTube responds. I've already emailed this story to parliament and to the media, and I'll keep doing that as this grows. When this petition has real numbers behind it, I'll deliver it to YouTube's leadership and creator policy teams and ask for a formal response. Every signature proves this isn't one channel's bad luck, it's a system that needs to change.
