Remove the Unfair Quit-Ban Penalty System in NBA 2K
The Issue
Petition Summary
We are calling on Visual Concepts and 2K Sports to completely remove or overhaul the automated quit-ban system in NBA 2K.
Why This Matters
As dedicated players, we invest significant money into purchasing the game every year, along with ongoing financial support through microtransactions (VC) to build our MyPLAYERs and collect packs in MyTEAM. Despite this investment, the current quit-ban system unfairly penalizes paying customers for making basic choices about how they spend their game time.
We should have the freedom to decide whether to stay in a match or leave. Players are routinely trapped in frustrating games with teammates who intentionally grief, ball-hog, or throw low-IQ shots for an entire half. Forcing players to endure toxic or unplayable matches under threat of a temporary ban damages the user experience.
Furthermore, the automated system fails to distinguish between an intentional quit and server-side disconnects, lag-outs, or game crashes. Players are routinely hit with bans through no fault of their own due to network instability on the game's servers.
Our Demands
1. Eliminate Temporary Ban Penalties for Quitting: Stop issuing account or matchmaking bans when players choose to leave a match across all online modes, including MyTEAM (Unlimited, Salary Cap, Clutch Time Online), Rec, Park, and Pro-Am.
2. Implement Alternative Solutions: Instead of bans, utilize existing systems like forfeit losses, teammate grade penalties, loss of rep/performance tier, or matchmaking queues that group persistent quitters together.
3. Fix Disconnect Penalties: Ensure the system does not penalize players when connection drops or game crashes occur.
We agree that anti-cheat enforcement is essential to keep the game fair. However, choosing to back out of a toxic, blowout, or laggy match is not cheating. We paid for this game, we support its live service, and we should be allowed to play and exit matches on our own terms.
