Remove the UFS BFN ISRC President from office

Remove the UFS BFN ISRC President from office
The Issue
The students of the University of the Free State, Bloemfontein Campus, deserve a representative in the Institution Student Representative Council (ISRC) who will truly prioritize and address their needs. Unfortunately, it has become evident that the current president, serving the ISRC, has failed to fulfill these critical responsibilities.
Firstly, student grievances have not been adequately addressed. Numerous students have reported their issues and concerns, ranging from but not limited to threats to academic future, campus safety, student brutalized by private security forces hired by the institution, being the voice of the students, only to be met with silence or ineffective resolutions. The primary role of the ISRC president should be to ensure that these grievances are heard and acted upon promptly and effectively, striving to foster an environment where students feel supported and valued.
Additionally, the president has failed to represent students' interests during crucial discussions and decision-making processes with the university administration. It is paramount that the person holding this office be an advocate for the student body, ensuring their voices are not only heard but respected and acted upon. The current leadership has, regrettably, been silent or absentee during such critical moments, leaving a void where student advocacy should be robust and persistent.
Moreover, there appears to be an inability to prioritize student concerns. With numerous pressing issues affecting the student community, strong leadership that prioritises students' welfare, safety, and educational success is non-negotiable. The current presidency has not demonstrated the capacity or willingness to place these matters at the forefront of their agenda.
Given these reasons, we urge the Policy and Transformation Officer (custodian of the Constitution), the Student Governance Office (SGO), and
The Speaker of the Student Parliament at the University of the Free State to consider the removal of the current ISRC president from office and to conduct a transparent and fair election process. This will ensure that a competent and dedicated leader is selected, one who will genuinely work for and with the students in all matters concerning their university experience.
We implore the university community, students, faculty, and alumni, to join in supporting this call for change. By signing this petition, you're advocating for accountable and responsive student leadership, crucial for a thriving and supportive academic environment. Please sign and share with others who champion the cause of student representation and awareness.
