Thank you all for your support, and a special thanks to our 28 promoters who have chipped in to boost this petition’s reach to 113 more people. We never expected supporters to contribute financially.
A great opportunity has arisen: two ministers of the government are conducting reviews of LTN schemes across London.
- Mark Harper (mark.harper.mp@parliament.uk) is the Secretary of State for Transport, he is the main minister reviewing LTNs.
- Greg Hands (handsg@parliament.uk) is the Minister for Trade and Minister for London. He can speak for London on LTNs and already found LTNs are unpopular in surveys he conducted in Chelsea and Fulham (https://www.greghands.com/news/special-bulletin-traffic-survey-results
We request that as many of you as possible email them to request removal of the Swyncombe Avenue restriction along with your experiences. You can send the same email to both (maybe change the top line for Greg Hands as suggested below). Be aware that this window can close at any time so the sooner you write, the better. We feel this is more urgent and important than sharing the petition but it would be even more powerful if you could do both and we reach 1000 signatures.
Please write from the heart, be authentically you, and express your views and experiences in your own words. You are not being marked on your grammar, style, layout or punctuation, it’s your democratic viewpoint, experiences, knowledge and facts that matter. The ministers are aware of the issues, but they need people to speak up about them.
You can ignore the following if easier but our suggestions are:
Your emails should start:
1. For mark.harper.mp@parliament.uk:
Rt Hon Mark Harper MP, Secretary of State for Transport
Subject line: LTN review - Hounslow Swycombe Avenue / LTN review: London Borough of Hounslow, Swyncombe Avenue in Brentford / whatever you think
Dear Secretary of State,
[Then your words]
2. For handsg@parliament.uk:
Rt Hon Greg Hands MP, Minister for Trade and Minister for London
Subject line: LTN review - Hounslow Swycombe Avenue / LTN review: London Borough of Hounslow, Swyncombe Avenue in Brentford / whatever you think
Dear Minister,
I kindly request you to lobby the Secretary of State for Transport Mark Harper to ensure his review of LTNs includes the whole London view.
[Then your words]
You can write in bullet points, if possible summarising at the top and then giving detail below. You may wish to write about one or more of the following:
- the public consultation and this petition demonstrating majority opposition to the restriction (almost 76% opposition). Please include the link to the petition: https://www.change.org/TrafficPain
- the effect of the restriction on Boston Manor Road and / or other neighbouring roads such as Haslemere Avenue and areas such as Northfields
- the impact on car travel, public transport (e.g. the E8 bus), the emergency services, cyclists, pedestrians, local residents, time with families, tradespeople, businesses and shops
- the impact on congestion, pollution, health and physical dangers of traffic moving to narrow roads
Targets:
750 signatures: we already outnumber the previous total number of all residents from Hounslow and Ealing opposing the restriction
1000 signatures: a psychologically important number which councillors would find harder to ignore
8001 signatures: we outnumber Guy Lambert’s exaggerated number of emails requesting the restriction
Many thanks!
