Remove the New Weekend Parking Restrictions in Fell’s Point

The Issue

This week, a new parking policy has been implemented in Fell’s Point. Any cars that are parked on Thames St. between Wolfe and Bond and on Broadway between Fleet and Thames between the hours of 10pm-3am Friday through Sunday will be ticketed and towed. This was done without the knowledge or consent of the businesses or residents.

This poses many problems for businesses, residents, employees, performers and patrons. Fell’s Point is emptying out at 9:30 on weekends, which are peak hours, which will be devastating to the businesses and wait/bar staff. Those employees will be forced to walk down dark streets with pockets full of tips and will become easy targets for criminals. Patrons will have to make the same walk and will likely decide to go somewhere else. Musicians are unable to retrieve their equipment at the end of the night and have to carry their equipment to their cars outside of the perimeter, making them prime targets as well. The closer garages are absurdly expensive. (The lot at the end of Thames St just raised their weekend daily rate to $100.) City Hall has suggested patrons and employees use the $5 city garage in Little Italy. A half mile walk, down very dark streets. They say it’s to cut down on crime, but all this will do is give the predators more people to prey upon. This will also affect residents as people will opt to park in the 2hr residential areas, as a ticket is cheaper than most of the garages. There is also the drunk driving aspect, where people, who might otherwise leave their car overnight and take an uber home after having one too many, will opt to take their chances rather than get towed. This will put even more people at risk.

Please make your voices heard about this. Call City Hall 410-396-4900. Send them emails https://mayor.baltimorecity.gov/node/28 every day. Sign this petition and share it. Fell’s Point is the beating heart of this city. This will be detrimental to everyone except the garages and tow companies.

PLEASE NOTE At the end of signing this petition it will ask if you want to donate. That is not necessary. It goes to the website. If you want to donate to them for having this service, that’s very kind and generous of you. I just wanted it to be clear that it doesn’t go toward this cause. I didn’t know that would be there and I don’t see a way to remove it. And if you have already donated, please be sure you didn’t sign up for monthly donations. Thank you for signing and trying to protect our gem of a community.
