The Issue

My heart breaks to write this, but the current situation at Tri-City Animal Shelter requires urgent attention. As someone deeply invested in the welfare of our beloved animals and the dedicated staff who provide them care, I cannot stand by as the shelter continues to operate under the ineffective and damaging management of Kelly Miott.

Kelly Miott has demonstrated she is unfit for the role. Disturbingly, she has been responsible for euthanizing healthy animals, a decision that should always be the absolute last resort. Her management style is characterized by harassment and bullying towards staff members, creating a toxic work environment that hinders the mission of the shelter.

Furthermore, she lies to upper management, obscuring the reality and challenges within the shelter. Her lack of initiative in addressing crucial problems, such as the 999-hour work rule for part-time staff, exacerbates the situation. This rule leads to the layoff of experienced part-timers once they reach the maximum hours. Consequently, this places a crushing burden on the remaining staff—forcing them to care for up to forty six dogs and multiple cats, inevitably leading to burnout, diminished quality of care, and tragic, unnecessary euthanasia. Working at a shelter is mentally, physically, and emotionally difficult. The current staff are dedicated and do not want to leave, however they are being forced out. Which adds to the stress of layoffs and leaving the animals uncared for.

Kelly Miott’s apparent indifference towards these critical issues suggests she does not have the best interests of the animals or the staff at heart. This shelter’s purpose is to provide sanctuary, care, and a second chance for animals. That mission is compromised each day Kelly Miott remains in her position.

We must take action to ensure the Tri-City Animal Shelter operates under leadership that truly embodies compassion, respect, and dedication. Shelter management should prioritize eliminating harmful policies, providing the necessary support to its staff, and maintaining transparency and trust within the community.

Please sign this petition to demand accountability and the removal of Kelly Miott from Tri-City Animal Shelter so that the true spirit of care and compassion can be restored for both the animals and the dedicated staff who serve them.
