Remove the Level Crossing at High Street, Glen Iris

Remove the Level Crossing at High Street, Glen Iris
The issue
The people of Glen Iris and surrounding suburbs who travel through the existing High Street, Glen Iris Railway Crossing face unacceptable delays every day. The existing system is outdated and needs to be removed.
We are seeking the support of the community to urge the State Government to deliver this important transport infrastructure upgrade to improve traffic flows and community safety.
Local residents and the broader community have been calling for this for years.
Traffic delays at the High Street, Glen Iris Railway Crossing promote traffic ‘rat runs’ through Dunlop Street, Winton Road, and Great Valley Road. Overuse of these residential streets causes excessive and undue traffic congestion and harms local residential amenity.
Glen Iris Village is significant to the culture and history of the area. Removing this level crossing would improve access by all means of transport to these iconic shops, boosting the community and promoting a thriving local economy.
It is essential for the State Government to remove this railway crossing.
Sign this petition now to deliver this important transport infrastructure upgrade to improve traffic flows and community safety.
We call upon Premier Jacinta Allen, Minister for Transport Infrastructure Danny Pearson, and local MP Matthew Fregon to fully fund and prioritise the removal of the High Street, Glen Iris Railway Crossing, as advocated for by Stonnington Council.
The residents of Glen Iris and surrounding areas.

"Council supports a Level Crossing Removal Project (LXRP) which takes a corridor approach when considering the removal of the remaining level crossings in the Glen Waverley Line. It also supports the inclusion of the High St, Glen Iris crossing to be included in the current business case."
