Remove the hoodie ban in CISD middle and high schools
Remove the hoodie ban in CISD middle and high schools
The Issue
As a student in the CISD school district, I am deeply frustrated with the current ban on hoodies in both middle and high schools. This rule feels not only excessive but also redundant, especially when we already have effective security measures in place such as metal detectors and mandatory clear backpacks.
The primary argument against hoodies is often related to security concerns. However, with metal detectors in place, it is nearly impossible for students to hide dangerous objects within their hoodies without being detected. Clear backpacks further ensure that no items go unchecked, providing a transparent security process as we move in and out of school premises.
Moreover, hoodies are an essential item of clothing for many students. They provide comfort and warmth, especially when classrooms can fluctuate in temperature. For some, a hoodie might also be a part of their individual expression, a way to feel more confident and secure in a social environment that can often be challenging.
Beyond personal comfort, consider the practicality. On cold mornings or chilly air-conditioned classrooms, hoodies offer a simple solution to stay warm without the need to layer on jackets, which can be cumbersome and impractical.
Schools should be environments that foster both safety and comfort. By lifting the hoodie ban, we trust that the existing security measures are sufficient. This petition calls on the CISD school board to reconsider their current stance and to allow hoodies on campus without reservations, ensuring that security remains a top priority without compromising student comfort.
Please support this petition by adding your signature, and help create a balanced approach towards school dress codes that respects our comfort and security needs. Together, we can promote a school environment that feels both safe and welcoming.
To add, it just feels pointless. some kids dont have the money for that or some kids wardrobes may be full of hoodies, who knows what any kid is going through. hoodies dont get in the way of essential learning meanwhile not having them does. I say this because if we are cold in the classroom hoodies are great for warmth, or even cold outside. Getting through this winter is hard and whats hard enough is banning hoodies.
