Remove the Front License Plate Requirement in BC

Remove the Front License Plate Requirement in BC
The Issue
Why This Matters
British Columbia remains one of the few provinces in Canada that still mandates front license plates on vehicles. This outdated requirement comes with unnecessary costs and drawbacks, including:
- Increased Costs to Taxpayers: Manufacturing and maintaining front plates costs the government (and taxpayers) more money. Many other provinces have eliminated front plates to reduce expenses.
- Aesthetic & Design Issues: Front plates interfere with vehicle design, especially for sports cars, classic cars, and EVs that lack dedicated mounting space.
- Limited Enforcement Benefits: Many provinces that eliminated front plates (e.g., Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Quebec) report no significant difference in policing effectiveness. Additionally, removing this requirement means one less minor infraction for police to enforce, allowing them to focus on higher-priority issues.
- Environmental Impact: Reducing plate production cuts down on material use and waste.
What We’re Asking For
We urge the Government of British Columbia to remove the front license plate requirement, aligning with Alberta, Saskatchewan, Quebec, and other provinces that only require a single rear plate.
By signing this petition, you support:
- Lower costs for taxpayers
- A modernized vehicle regulation system
- Cleaner and more aesthetic vehicle designs
Let’s push BC to make this simple, cost-effective change! Sign and share today.
