Good news: Sunset Valley City Council voted on January 20th to not renew its contract with Flock for automated license plate readers. This was all because dozens of us told them we don't want to be surveilled by an untrustworthy and incompetent tech startup, and they agreed. I was waiting to share the news until the cameras were actually removed.

But I'm still waiting. Flock has left the cameras running even after the contract expired 3 months ago. They've left rogue cameras in other cities, presumably because the data they collect is more valuable to sell to other customers. The city has taped over the lenses of two cameras, but the rest continue to operate, scanning a million license plates since we told Flock to stop.

City Council is meeting on Tuesday the 19th. All of our concerns remain. Let's ask them to back up their vote and remove or disable Flock cameras still on city property:

Maybe they need volunteers to put black bags over the cameras or disconnect their solar panels?
