Remove the Facebook page 'The Real Columbia Missouri' and Hold Them Accountable
The Issue
Growing up in Columbia, Missouri, I've always been proud to call this community my home. It's a place where neighbors support one another, where kindness and compassion reign. However, this sense of community is under threat by a Facebook page that is doing more harm than good. "The Real Columbia Missouri" is using its platform to engage in the dangerous practice of doxing homeless individuals.
Doxing, the act of publicly sharing private information about individuals without their consent, is not just unethical—it's dangerous. This act puts vulnerable members of our community at risk, exposing them to potential harassment and violence. Our homeless individuals are already struggling; we should be working towards helping them, not putting them in harm's way.
Columbia has worked hard to build a community that supports all its members, regardless of their circumstances. It’s time to reaffirm our commitment to this cause by taking action against this page. The content shared on "The Real Columbia Missouri" violates not only individual privacy but also Facebook's Community Standards, which prohibit bullying, harassment, and threats.
We understand that the power of social media can be used for good—raising awareness, mobilizing resources, and driving positive change. But when misused, it becomes a weapon that can cause real harm. This page is an example of such misuse, and it does not reflect the values we hold dear in Columbia.
Therefore, we urge Facebook to take immediate action and remove "The Real Columbia Missouri" from its platform and the City of Columbia Missouri Law Enforcement to hold those involved accountable.
Let us stand together as a community and ensure that Columbia remains a safe and supportive place for everyone, including the most vulnerable among us. Alongside
Please join me in signing this petition to protect our community and uphold the values of dignity and respect for all individuals.
