The Issue

As a concerned resident and homeowner of Dobson Ranch in Mesa, AZ, USA, I am writing this petition to request the removal of our current Executive Director from her paid position within the Homeowners Association (HOA).  Additionally, I urge the board to organize a hiring event to find a suitable replacement who will restore Dobson Ranch to the Greatest Place to Live. The intent is for petition signers to be residents members of Dobson Ranch. Please only sign this petition if you are a resident of Dobson Ranch in Mesa, AZ.

Personal Story:

I am personally affected by these concerns as a dues-paying member of our HOA. My family and I have greatly benefited from various community programs that were once available to us. Particularly my young children. However, in recent months, these programs have been reduced or completely removed without any prior notice or consultation with residents to establish their value to us and fix sustainability issues. While I understand the Board may have reviewed these shifts, they were not effectively or transparently communicated by the Director prior to their changes, with our camps being a primary example of this failure.

Reasons for Removal:

1. Lack of Transparency: The current Executive Director has failed to be transparent with residents regarding her intent to change community programs in advance. This lack of communication has left many families like mine feeling blindsided and uninformed about important changes affecting our daily lives.

2. Disregard for Resident Input: It is crucial for any decision-maker within an HOA to consult with residents before removing valuable community programs. Unfortunately, my communications with the Executive director have not lead to inquisitive or positive communication.

3. Neglecting Family Driven Programs: Our community thrives on family-driven programs that cater to individuals of all ages. However, under the leadership of the current Executive Director, these essential programs have been compromised or eliminated altogether without proper prior notice justification or alternative solutions.

4. Unprofessional Communication Style: Effective communication is key when managing an HOA that directly impacts residents' lives and well-being. Regrettably, our current Executive Director has consistently demonstrated unprofessionalism in her communication style towards both staff and concerned residents alike. In televised board meetings she often presents as defensive and not inquisitive.

5. Failure to provide and maintain a work environment that promotes the retention of valued staff of Dobson Ranch: The loss of our recreation leaders and potentially our preschool program and its treasured lead teacher due to a lack of support from the Executive Director violates the trust and needs of the home owners.

Grounds for action by the Board:

ARTICLE VIII

BOARD OF DIRECTORS POWERS

8.1 Powers. The Board shall have the power to execute duties necessary for the administration of the Association's affairs and for performing all responsibilities and exercising all rights of the Association as set forth in the Governing Documents, and as provided by law. The Board may do or cause to be done on behalf of the Association all acts and things except those the Governing Documents or Arizona law require to be done and exercised exclusively by the Members or the Membership generally. Without limiting the generalities of the foregoing, the Board shall have the power to:

8.1.11 hire, employ, direct, and dismiss the Executive Director, whether as an independent contractor or as an employee, necessary to perform such services and duties as the Board may direct, including, but without limitation, any of the duties granted to the Board by these Bylaws or any of the duties granted to the Officers of the Association by these Bylaws. The Board shall have the power to delegate any of such duties to the Executive Director subject to such limitations and restrictions upon the exercise of those duties by the Executive Director as the Board may deem necessary and advisable. Notwithstanding the above, matters relating to the job performance of, compensation of (whether salary or bonuses), health records of or specific complaints against all employees shall be discussed and approved by the Board in executive session.

Conclusion:
It is imperative that we take action now by removing the current Executive Director from her paid position within the HOA Board of Directors. By doing so, we can pave the way for a more transparent, inclusive, and community-driven approach to decision-making. I urge the board to organize a hiring event that will allow us to find a qualified individual who will prioritize resident input, maintain essential family programs, and communicate professionally.

Together, let us work towards restoring program stability within our community and ensuring that all residents have a voice in shaping its future. Sign this petition today to make our concerns heard and bring about positive change for Dobson Ranch!
