Remove the Dove Eating Disorder Advert from TV
The Issue
One of Dove’s latest adverts, ‘Cost of Beauty’ follows the story of a young girl’s battle with an eating disorder. Within the advert, we are shown harmful videos of emaciated bodies, someone weighing themselves, bodychecks including posing, measuring their wrist, pinching their skin. While the advert intends on advocating for awareness of how social media harms our mental health, it does so in a way that is very triggering and uncomfortable to eating disorder sufferers. This advert is shown on prime-time television and is incredibly triggering, having the potential to do a lot of harm to people.
I believe they are exploiting eating disorder sufferers in an attempt to make profit.
