The Issue

Tombs has been more than an establishment for us, the Georgetown University community; it has been a home away from home. A cherished tradition, a spot where students gather to share laughter, forge lasting friendships, and create timeless memories. Introducing a cover charge is a significant departure from what Tombs represents: a welcoming community space where all are free to connect without financial barriers. It's a place that fosters the spirit of unity, and monetizing this sacred space feels like a betrayal.

Tombs has been integral to student life, serving as the heartbeat of social interactions. It has always been a place where one can freely walk in, without the worry of additional costs, and fully immerse in the Georgetown spirit. Implementing a cover charge risks alienating many students who may not afford this extra cost, thereby diminishing the inclusive culture that Tombs has historically promoted.

Moreover, this decision seems counteractive to keeping Tombs accessible to all its patrons, something that has always been a cornerstone of its identity. Tomb's management must consider the potential long-term consequences of this new policy: reduced patronage, a shift in the student atmosphere, and the possible erosion of loyalty from lifelong patrons who feel priced out of their favorite spot.

We urge Tombs management to reconsider and remove this cover charge. It's essential to preserve this vital community hub and maintain the traditions that so many hold dear. By doing so, Tombs can continue to be the vibrant, welcoming space it has always been. Sign this petition to request that Tombs uphold its legacy as a bastion of student life without financial constraints. Let's keep Tombs open and inviting for everyone.
