Remove superintendent Grey Clay from Union County schools
The Issue
On Thursday, September 10,2026, a pivotal incident occurred at the Union County School Board meeting, sparking a community outcry. A young man courageously stood before the board, armed with a list of pressing concerns that needed addressing, concerns that resonate deeply with many parents, students, and taxpayers alike. However, the response he received was both dismissive and disappointing. Superintendent Grey Clay chose only to address issues related to the football field and nothing more, showing a blatant disregard for the wider needs of our schools.
Moreover, during the meeting's recess, off the official record, Mr. Clay reportedly made a statement asserting proprietary control by saying, "this is his school." This shocking comment underscores a misguided understanding of role and responsibility. The school belongs to the children and taxpayers who fund it, not Mr. Clay. He is an employee of the county, entrusted with serving the public, yet his actions reflect a misalignment with community interests.
One glaring example is Mr. Clay’s handling of resources. He sought substantial funds for installing lights on the football field but, inexplicably, refuses to permit football games there, allowing it to be used solely for practice. This not only disrespects our investment as taxpayers but also undermines school spirit and student activities, integral parts of our children's education and community life.
It is clear that Superintendent Clay’s leadership is falling short of what our community deserves. We need a superintendent who listens genuinely to community concerns, acts transparently, and supports both educational and extracurricular activities that enrich student experience and respect taxpayer contributions.
I urge the Union County School Board to consider these significant issues and take immediate action to remove Superintendent Grey Clay from office. By doing so, we can pave the way for leadership that values and represents the interests of our students, educators, and community members.
Join me in holding our school leadership accountable and ensuring our schools are managed with integrity and respect for all stakeholders.
