We are petitioning for the immediate removal of sexually explicit books  from our libraries in School District 22! Our children are incrementally being exposed to SEXUALLY EXPLICIT books, that are inappropriate for their age, many of which in previous years have been suspended and banned in many School Districts. We ask PARENTS to ACT NOW to ascertain that reading materials offered and used by the schools in our District are age appropriate, safe, and psychologically sound! We are calling on ALL PARENTS and concerned citizens to TAKE A STANCE and sign this petition to immediately remove all sexually explicit books, including those with rape, incest, prostitution, and sexual abuse, from SD 22 schools!

In SD 22, sexually graphic books are currently accessible to our youth, with over 50 of these books already identified as being on the library shelves of our schools. These books contain vivid sexual imagery that depict underage children masturbating and having sex with others of the same age or gender, different genders, and friends and family members, young and old. These books describe episodes of incest, assault, rape, prostitution, and pedophilia. To varying degrees, parents are depicted as neglectful and dismissive, young victims are degraded and demoralized, and sex offenders are defended! These books are laced with explicit sexual language, sexually graphic images, offensive language (i.e. "nigger," "bitch," "cunt," "whore"), obscene child sexual exploitation and pedophilia! For instance, in the book called, “This Book is Gay,” children are given step-by step instructions on how to download and use, as a support system, an app called “grindr,” which connects them to adult gay males.

Please go to our Youth Advocates spreadsheet of sexually explicit books that are currently available in your child’s School District #22 library.

If you have concerns about any of the books in your child’s school library, make an appointment with your child’s principal. Provide the title(s) of the book(s) with the reasons why you find the book(s) offensive, and request immediate removal. Voice your concerns to your local PAC (Parent Advisory Council) and email the School Trustees and Board of Education
