The Issue

As someone who has personally experienced the trauma of sexual assault during childhood, I am deeply concerned about the safety and well-being of students at Seneca College. It has come to my attention that a convicted sex offender, who engaged in unlawful and exploitative sexual activities with students at a high school in Owen Sound, is now attending our college, sharing multiple classes with students. This information has caused growing unease and fear among the college community, especially for those who have been informed of his past crimes.

According to reports, this individual has a history of human trafficking young girls as young as 11 years old. Such a background not only raises significant concerns about the safety of students but also undermines the sense of security that a learning environment should provide. We believe that it is crucial for Seneca College to maintain a safe and supportive atmosphere, where students can focus on their education without fear of harm or intimidation.

It is essential that authorities at Seneca College take immediate and decisive action to remove this individual from campus until a thorough investigation can be completed. Implementing a more rigorous background check process for incoming students, especially those with criminal records, would ensure the safety of all members of the college community moving forward. This action would also demonstrate Seneca College's commitment to providing a safe educational environment for all its students.

We ask the administration to collaborate with local law enforcement and legal experts to assess the situation urgently. Additionally, we urge them to provide counseling and support services for students who feel threatened or uncomfortable, assuring them that their safety is a priority.

Please sign this petition to join us in urging Seneca College to take immediate action to protect its students and uphold the integrity and safety of our community.
