Remove Richard Hanania from the University of Texas at Austin

The Issue

HuffPost has reported that Richard Hanania, a Visiting Scholar at the University of Texas at Austin, has used a variety of pseudonyms and sock puppet social media accounts in the past to make various harmful, misogynistic, and racist statements. These include but are not limited to the beliefs that;

  • women's liberation would lead to the dissolution of human civilization
  • White people are better than all other races
  • people with a low IQ should be sterilized
  • race mixing is shameful
  • Black people are genetically predisposed to be criminals, are of low intellect, and cannot govern themselves
  • Hispanics are also of low intelligence
  • Fat women are disgusting, unappealing, and politically liberal
  • Some races are better than others

He has also written for numerous publications which are white nationalist/supremacist, anti-Semitic, and anti-immigrant in addition to spreading harmful conspiracy theories.

I call upon all those alums of the University of Texas at Austin and the UT system who desire a university setting free of such harmful, disgusting, and completely unacademic ideas to ask that UT Austin revoke Hanania's position as a Visiting Scholar and Fellow.
