Face-planting, Promiscuous Images on Public Buses

Driving on roads should not warrant the constant and consistent exposure to promiscuous images featuring models or individuals in a state of partial nudity.

This is a common occurrence on the buses throughout Sydney, NSW, where such images are plastered on the back and sides, confronting drivers and passengers alike. These images can be unavoidable, especially when they are directly facing someone's car when the bus is stopped at a light or on the side, creating a barrage of unsolicited visuals.

Grounded Rationale

Children, whose eyes are innocent and impressionable, are among those most affected by these images. Our roads and public transport systems should be safe spaces for all individuals, free from the forced viewing of content that may be inappropriate or uncomfortable.

It is one thing for adults to choose what they want to see, but it is entirely different when it is thrust into the public sphere without consent or warning!

Urgent Action Needed

There is a pressing need for the New South Wales Government and Transport Authorities to recognize the impact of such images on public decorum and community standards. Australian law regulates public exposure of sexual content. The AANA Code of Ethics (under section 2.4) mandates sensitivity regarding sex, sexuality, and nudity in advertising, especially in public spaces where diverse audiences, including children, may be inadvertently exposed.

By implementing stricter guidelines on the content of advertisements displayed on public buses, we can ensure that the images are appropriate for all viewers. This action would not only respect the individual rights of passengers and other road users but also align with community values emphasizing respect and decency.

• Join us in urging the NSW government and local transport authorities to take down and prohibit the placement of promiscuous images in public view on buses.

• Ensuring that public transport remains a respectful and comfortable space for everyone is a responsibility that we should all take seriously.

• Sign this petition to advocate for advertising that upholds the dignity and sensibilities of our community!
