I'm a concerned parent of children attending a local school in Chicago, IL, and I'm deeply troubled by the behavior and policies of the current principal. She has allowed teachers to punish the children with denial of water and bathroom breaks, taking away chairs, denying students PE and or recess, and constantly yelling at students. Principal Thomas persistently refused to communicate with parents about critical staff members vacancies. Refuses to cooperate with parents with issues that affect our children's well-being, including classroom safety, instructional concerns, and even instances of illegal disciplinary actions taken by teachers. Many other parents and staff have expressed similar frustrations. But principal Thomas intimidates, name calls and bullies anyone who speaks up. 

In an environment where teachers, staff and children are supposed to feel safe and motivated, the principal’s use of lies and intimidation to make this a very hostile environment to work, collaborate and improve our community. Every parent deserves a school that focuses on being a healthy place that fosters transparency and a collaborative relationship within the school and community and a principal that ensures their children receive the best possible education and care.

It's imperative we foster an inclusive and open atmosphere where parents can freely address issues and work alongside educators for the betterment of our children's education. Therefore, we urge the Chicago School District to take immediate action by evaluating the current leadership and considering the implementation of a leadership team genuinely committed to prioritizing student safety, effective communication, and lawful practice in school discipline.
