Starting this petition to have the new Iron Fencing removed from the Main Port Dover Pier and for the removal of the steel fencing that completely blocks off public access to the Eastern Pier. 

The Port Dover Harbour Authority took it upon themselves to erect a steel fence, completely  blocking off public access to Eastern Pier in Port Dover. Norfolk County received federal funding during Diane Finley's term as Haldimand Norfolk's Federal Member of Parliment duration. Funding was granted to Norfolk County for the resurfacing of said pier for the future use for BOTH public and commercial use. Since the fencing installation this pier has no public access and has had very little to no commercial use. This needs to be taken down. 

As of September 10, 2025 a new black iron fence with gate was erected crossing the main Port Dover Pier which can be said has been done clearly for control. Very little thought was put into this decision, as maintenance vehicle's won't even be able to drive out and onto the main pier for servicing the lighthouse without having difficulties. Many members of the public use the pier for a variety of personal reasons all year long. Which the Port Dover Harbour Authority has no right taking its use away whenever they see fit. A quote taken from a post made in another facebook group that was made on behalf of the Port Dover Harbour Authority President that said.." The fence will be utilized in the event of adverse weather conditions eg. Heavy icing , also high winds and waves." Well people should ask themselves... Why Now? When many years ago ice conditions were much worse on the Pier then they have been in recent years, the water levels in the last 2 to 3 years have been quite a bit lower ( several feet ) so waves should not be a concern and winds have always been up and down over the years so there is no changes there either. 

Recently Norfolk County has put a lot of tax payers money into the so called ( and unpopular by many ) Beautification of the waterfront down on Harbour Street and the new black Iron Fencing that was decided upon by the Port Dover Harbour Authority and then installed is nothing but a complete eye sore and is nothing more than an attempt to control its use when when the powers to be see fit, seriously locals and tourists have used especially the main pier in Port Dover all year long for many, many years using their own grown up common sense when safe to do so!!

It's clear that those responsible for these fences ( blockages) are power hungry and controlling. 

It's time for everyone to step up against this nonsense and show your support by signing this petition to have them both removed.
