Remove Pitbulls from Aggressive Breed Housing Restriction List

Remove Pitbulls from Aggressive Breed Housing Restriction List
The Issue
Pitbulls are the sweetest, friendliest, and safest dogs to have. From my own experience, they are the most loving pets anyone could ever own. The misconception that Pitbulls are inherently aggressive is unfounded and deeply unfair. My family and I have always had Pitbulls, and they’ve consistently been the nicest dogs we’ve ever owned. Their gentle nature and affectionate demeanor have brought immeasurable joy to our lives and children’s lives. The reality is, any dog can display aggression if they are trained to behave that way or if they endure abuse. This is not a trait specific to Pitbulls.
Currently, numerous housing authorities label Pitbulls as "aggressive breeds," leading to widespread breed-specific restrictions. This blanket policy unfairly discriminates against responsible Pitbull owners and ignores the individual behavior of the dogs. It creates unwarranted barriers for families looking to rent or buy homes, essentially punishing Pitbull owners without cause. Across the country, countless families find themselves facing housing rejections solely because they own a Pitbull.
Our beloved Pitbull is a testament to their potential for goodness. We rescued him from a shelter, and he has become a cherished member of our family. He is currently in the process of being trained as a service dog, further proving that with love and proper training, Pitbulls can excel in roles that require patience and calm.
We urge policymakers, landlords, and housing authorities to reconsider labeling Pitbulls as aggressive breeds and to revise their housing restrictions. We call for policies that assess dogs based on individual behavior rather than breed stereotypes. By removing Pitbulls from the aggressive breed lists in housing policies, we acknowledge the need for fair treatment of all dog owners and recognize the unjust stigmatization of this breed.
Please join us in advocating for Pitbulls and ensuring they have the opportunity to live with their families without discrimination. Signing this petition is a step toward fostering understanding and compassion for all dog breeds and their owners. Let's change these outdated policies and give our Pitbulls the chance they deserve. Sign the petition to support the removal of Pitbulls from aggressive breed housing restrictions. Together, we can make a difference.
