Remove Najam Sethi

Najam Sethi made some very immoral remarks about Imran Khan’s ex-wife Jemima Khan during his show “Aapas ki baat” on February 7th 2012 on Geo news. By making false claims he is open to public scrutiny and should be held libel. This was a blatant attempt to defame PTI whom Najam Sethi regularly targets. This kind of behaviour is not only irresponsible but unethical especially coming from senior journalists like Najam Sethi. No one should be targeted for their religious believes or faith. By raising such issues Mr. Sethi has exposed disregard for other religions and is using popular sentiment and to arouse suspicion and contempt for Mr. Khans family.
He should not be using his power to influence public opinion to target family members of politicians. He can disagree with their views but he should not be making false allegations against their families.
Jemima Khan’s Jewish heritage has nothing to do with Imran Khan’s politics or his party. Though she converted to Islam when she married Imran Khan. We feel that a person’s faith is a private matter and should not be used in such a contemptuous way to attack a person be they a public figure or private citizens.
In an already polarised society religious bigotry has led to the killing of the late Governor Salmaan Taseer and Minorities Minister Shahbaz Bhatti. Najam Sethi may have just put the lives of Imran Khan and Jemima at risk with his reckless comments. He should not only retract his comments but also make an unconditional public apology. We call on Geo news to take proper action against this irresponsible programming immediately and have Najam Sethi removed.
