Hello,

My name is Shawna McDaniels. I created this petition because I believe Matt Mohr needs to be removed from the Marion Fair Board, where he currently is President. He is an untrustworthy person with low morals who discriminates against those less fortunate than himself. 

This was first brought to my attention on 6/15/24 at the Marion Fair. On that morning around 10:30 am, my son Brandon had walked the 2 blocks from our house and was standing by one of the fair stands enjoying the music and dancing along. He had recently been hospitalized for seizures and was placed on a medication (Keppra) which caused him to have side effects limiting his communication abilities. Music is one thing that helps calm him down and makes him happy. He had his Grandma Sunshine's ashes with him in his hand, she always loved music, so we assume he was dancing with her. 

When my sister and I approached Brandon and attempted to talk to him, Matt Mohr immediately jumped in our faces and told us to "step away from him, he has a ride coming". When I questioned what Brandon had done wrong, Matt tried to state that Brandon had drugs in the vial in his hand. I explained to Matt that those were in fact Brandon's Grandma's ashes and explained the medication Brandon was on and it's side effects. Matt's response was that is what they carry drugs in, he wanted Brandon trespassed from the fair grounds and " I need to keep Brandon on a leash!"

The cops had been called and arrived, and Brandon was served with a trespass. Comp#67-2400998. He wasn't able to enjoy any other amenities at the fair. Brandon has been dealing with his mental health for months. All my son wanted was to enjoy a moment in his day. The Marion Fair has been dropping attendance for years and Matt Mohr is chasing more people away.  I feel Brandon was discriminated against and I do not want any other disabled/handicapped people to go thru what he has gone thru.

I have been working with the fair board to try to understand more about this situation and come to an understanding. During the course of this process I've also found out several instances where Matt Mohr has been dishonest during his dealings with payments to fair performers and with his contracts. An article was placed in the Marion Paper explaining more. 

The whole village of Marion is impacted by Matt Mohrs discrimination and dishonesty. Please sign my petition to remove him as fair board president and allow a better person to replace him. Thank you all for the support, from our family and Brandon.
