The Issue

On an ordinary day in Little Rock, Gregory Williams found himself in an extraordinary situation that no individual should ever have to face, especially from those sworn to protect and serve. The incident involved Officer Thomas Shook of the Little Rock Police Department and has left the community shaken and filled with questions demanding answers.

Officer Shook is alleged to have committed several egregious actions during an encounter with Gregory Williams. Reportedly, he omitted the use of a firearm in his official report, a serious breach of trust and protocol. More disturbingly, seen from body cam footage, Officer Shook immediately drew his pistol and pointed it directly at Gregory’s head after he was face down on the ground, even though Gregory was unarmed and posed no threat. These allegations reflect a grave misuse of power and call into question Officer Shook’s ability to perform his duties without compromising public trust or safety.

Transparency and accountability are cornerstone principles of law enforcement, ensuring that officers are held to the highest standards. The community’s safety and trust hinge on these principles. If these allegations are proven true, Officer Shook’s continued presence in the force not only undermines community trust but also endangers the very fabric of justice within Little Rock.

We acknowledge the importance of a thorough investigation and due process. However, it is imperative that all investigative procedures are conducted with the utmost integrity and objectivity to ensure an unbiased outcome. Furthermore, preventive measures such as body cameras, continuous training on de-escalation, and transparent reporting processes should be diligently enforced to avert potential abuses of power in the future.

We, the Little Rock community, urge those in power—Mayor Frank Scott Jr.; the chief of police, Chief Williams, and the Police Oversight Committee—to consider the seriousness of these allegations. Should the investigation substantiate the misconduct accusations, decisive action must be taken to remove Officer Shook from duty. This action will not only serve justice for Gregory Williams, but it will also reinforce trust within our community, the people.

Join us in advocating for a safer, more accountable law enforcement system—a step toward ensuring such incidents never occur again. Sign this petition to demand that justice prevail and Officer Thomas Shook be held accountable for his actions if found guilty of misconduct.
