On December 24th, 2024, Paul Clifford, a compassionate and kind-hearted individual, made the decision to help others in need on Christmas Eve. When two individuals knocked on his door, claiming they had car trouble, Paul chose to lend a helping hand. Tragically, his good Samaritan act ended in horror, as he was brutally murdered by Jack Upchurch, Wendy Scott, and Elmer Smith. He was left to die next to his burning vehicle, suffering devastating gunshot wounds.

Paul's family and the Tucson, Arizona community were shattered by this heinous crime. In their pursuit of justice for Paul, they were met with disappointment and frustration by the actions of Laura Conover, the Pima County Attorney. Instead of seeking the maximum penalties for such heinous acts, Conover pursued the lowest punishments available under the law, allowing for plea deals that effectively let murderers off easy.
