Lake in the Hills residents,
At the February 17, 2026 Planning & Zoning Commission public hearing, many residents raised serious concerns about the proposed gas station, car wash, and commercial development at the intersection of Lakewood Road and Miller Road.
This proposal would introduce increased traffic, commercial density, and fuel transport activity at an intersection surrounded by residential neighborhoods. It also sits near the Exner Marsh Conservation Area, habitat for the state-endangered Blanding’s turtle. Environmental and safety impacts deserve thorough, transparent evaluation.
While the Planning & Zoning Commission voted against the proposal, the matter can still move forward to the Village Board for consideration on February 26, 2026. The Board has the authority to approve or deny the project.
Residents have also expressed concerns about the public notice process and whether all impacted neighbors were properly informed. Transparency and full community engagement are essential in zoning matters of this scale.
We encourage all residents to attend the February 26 meeting and make your voices heard.
If the Board chooses to move forward with approval despite widespread resident opposition and unresolved concerns, we will pursue all lawful avenues to hold elected officials accountable, including calls for resignation and electoral action.
